Bus Travel Day Ramblings - Lima to Trujillo (Oct. 18)

Lima was a really nice city, but we were missing the small town...so off again, continuing north to Trujillo.  We have been looking at the same lunar landscape ever since we left Arequipa which seems like weeks ago. Today there were dunes as soon as we cleared Lima proper, Of course, it was over 1 1/2 hours after the bus left the station before we were out of Lima- talk about sprawling!

The best part about these bus rides has been arriving at the next location. A glimpse every so often of the Pacific doesn't hold you very long. Pam caught a big section of sand fenced. That was not really necessary. There is frikkin' sand everywhere! It's not like someone is likely to take yours.  It just got dark and we are 6 1/2 hours into our 9 3/4 hour trip. It's usually easier to appreciate out Peruvian bus driver's skills in the dark. I count about 15 very scary passes along the way so far.

When you pay up for the nice double-decker travel buses, ($20 each for today trip!), it is like you are travelling on an airplane: a "hostess" brings you a beverage when you get on, meals are served (included in the price), blankets and pillows are waiting for you on your seats and they play movies.  This afternoons movies have been in Spanish but subtitled.  And then they also have wi-fi and a nice clean bathroom in the back.  It really is a nice, and economical way to travel.

We arranged for a car to meet us tonight since the hotel is 15 minutes from the bus station in another town - a seaside town. Tomorrow we will visit some ruins or take a day to do nothing - we don't know which. It is likely that we will add a third night there since it is on the water and is 50 soles or about $17  a night.

The calendar is now catching up to us and October is passing faster and faster. We have one more town after this in Peru we want to visit and then we make our way to Ecuador. We can use the green landscape waiting there.

They have popcorn with just light salt added in bags like chips. The little critters have been a comfort for us addicts craving the corn! Pam finally tasted the Inka Cola- best selling drink in Peru forever. It tastes like bubblegum! Really. The best selling drink in Peru?

Okay...back to the movies.  More tomorrow with pics......
